Some mornings feel like a race against two tiny teething time bombs. Between the bottles, the spit-up, and the cries that echo like dueling sirens, I’ve learned that one of the best ways to reset our day is to grab the stroller and head out the door.
Our stroller walks have become a daily ritual, one that saves my sanity and keeps the twins happy. We use the Mountain Buggy Duet twin stroller, and honestly, I could write this post as a love letter to it. It’s been with us since the boys were newborns, and it still works perfectly now that they’re almost five months old. The seats lay completely flat, so when they were teeny tiny, it was like having two portable bassinets on wheels. I decided to skip buying the separate purchasable twin bassinet attachment, and I’ve never regretted that choice. The built-in attachments, cup holder, and extra storage space make this stroller a lifesaver.
The storage underneath easily fits my smaller diaper bag, which is my go-to for shorter trips. I also have a larger “I’m prepared for anything” diaper bag that stays at home or in the car for backup, because twin motherhood means you always need a plan B. The stroller has extra pockets for organizing pacifiers, burp cloths, and snacks I promise myself I’ll remember to eat later. The sunshades are great too, although let’s be honest, the real shade comes from me muttering under my breath when one of them throws their pacifier for the tenth time.
We take a two-mile loop around a nearby lake most mornings. On a good day, the twins fall asleep within the first few minutes, and I get to enjoy some rare quiet time. I’ll sip my coffee, breathe in the fresh air, and listen to the sound of the water lapping at the shore. It feels like peace in motion.
Other days, though, it’s a different story. Like yesterday, when they decided to stay awake for the entire two-mile stretch. Both were wide-eyed, kicking their little legs, and chatting in that adorable baby babble that sounds suspiciously like plotting. I thought I’d made it home scot-free when I noticed they just decided to drift off. So, there I was, walking in circles for another 45 minutes just to get them to nap. My watch congratulated me for hitting a new “step record.” I call it the Twin Treadmill Challenge.
Even on those unpredictable days, the walk changes everything. The twins get fresh air, I get some light exercise, and somehow the rest of the day goes smoother. The fussiness from teething feels more manageable, and I feel more grounded. It’s my reset button, my self-care, and my mini workout all in one.
The best part? When I look down at them sleeping side by side, I realize that even the hardest days have soft, quiet moments. And those stroller walks, chaotic or calm, always remind me that I’m doing okay
My Twin Stroller Walk Tips
I’ve picked up a few tricks that make these stroller walks smoother and a lot more enjoyable.
Keep it under 1.5 hours. At least at this age, that’s about the sweet spot before they start getting fussy or hungry. Any longer and the peaceful part of the walk turns into a soundtrack of baby protests.
Bring three muslin swaddles. I use one to drape over the stroller for extra shade and one as a blanket for each baby. They’re lightweight, soft, and perfect for layering if it gets breezy.
Time it right after a feeding. I try to head out right after they’ve eaten, but if one of them wasn’t super hungry earlier, I bring that unfinished bottle with us just in case. I’ve also ended up breastfeeding on the go a few times. It definitely helps to walk somewhere with plenty of park benches, just in case you need a quick pit stop.
These small adjustments make the whole experience calmer, and they give me peace of mind knowing the babies are comfortable and fed. Plus, it keeps our little routine flexible and fun.
