Things Nobody Told Me About Having Twins

Before I had twins, I heard all the classic lines: “Double the love!” and “You’ve got your hands full!” But there are so many things nobody really tells you. The quiet moments, the chaos, and the unexpected ways life changes when you’re raising two babies at once.

1. Nobody told me how constant the noise would be.

There’s always a sound in the background, a giggle, a cry, a coo, or the soft rustle of two little bodies discovering the world. Silence feels rare, almost suspicious, but the noise has become its own kind of comfort.

2. Nobody told me how different they’d be.

Even though they share a birthday, they are two completely separate people. One might love to cuddle while the other wiggles away. One might sleep like a dream while the other keeps me up all night. And learning their rhythms is like learning two new languages at once.

3. Nobody told me how hard it would be to divide myself.

There’s only one of me and two of them. Sometimes, that’s the hardest math in the world. I’ve learned to accept that I can’t give them both everything at the same time, and that’s okay. They’re learning patience, and I’m learning grace.

4. Nobody told me how beautiful it would be to watch their bond grow.

Even at this age, there’s a connection between them that’s hard to explain. They turn toward each other when one cries. They reach out to touch each other’s faces. They already share a world that’s uniquely theirs.

5. Nobody told me how much strength I’d find in myself.

The exhaustion, the juggling, the constant planning, it’s all hard. But every night, when I see two peaceful little faces sleeping side by side, I realize I’m doing it. Somehow, I’m keeping all of us going.

Having twins isn’t double everything, it’s its own world entirely. It’s the most chaotic, beautiful, love-filled experience I’ve ever known.
