What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?
Most of us have that one part of the day we try to skip if we can. For me, it’s the part right after the twins go down for a nap, cleaning up.
I always tell myself I’ll fold the laundry or wash the bottles first, but as soon as the house finally gets quiet, I just want to sit. Sometimes that means scrolling, sometimes it’s writing a quick blog post like this one, and other times it’s doing absolutely nothing at all.
As a twin mom, you can imagine that I have even less time than most. But I was still the one who tried to keep everything in order. A part of me believed it was necessary for my sanity. Over time though, I’ve had to let go of that idea… exponentially. I do what I can, and that’s what matters. My husband is amazing for helping when he’s home after working all day, and I’ll admit I get excited when he walks in the door because it means I can finally catch up on those little tasks. But resting during their naps is sometimes exactly what I need to be the best mom I can be for my boys.
It used to make me feel guilty, like I was wasting time. But now I see those quiet minutes as something sacred. The bottles will still get washed. The laundry will still get folded. But I’m a better mom when I give myself those small moments of rest instead of constantly trying to catch up.
Motherhood is full of routines that repeat day after day, and it’s easy to feel like we always have to be productive. But rest counts, too. And sometimes, skipping the “shoulds” is exactly what we need.
What about you? What’s the part of your routine you try to skip when you can, and how does it make you feel afterward?
