Before becoming a mom, I had hobbies.
Now I have survival skills.
Motherhood has quietly trained me in ways I never expected. Especially twin motherhood. No one hands you a manual titled “Congratulations, Here Are Your New Superpowers,” but somehow you wake up one day and realize… you’ve changed.
Here are some of the very random skills I’ve gained since becoming a mom of twins.
1. Inhaling My Food in Under Three Minutes
I used to sit down and eat.
Now I assess the room like I’m in a tactical operation.
Are both babies content?
Is one mid chew?
Is the other distracted by a toy?
Go.
I can finish an entire meal at record speed. No scrolling. No sipping. Just efficient, focused consumption. I never trained for competitive eating, but here we are.
And somehow I’m still grateful for every hot bite I get.
2. Elite Level Multitasking
I can:
• Warm bottles
• Refill water
• Answer a text
• Bounce a baby with my foot
• Mentally plan dinner
All at the same time.
Before kids, multitasking meant watching TV while folding laundry. Now it means operating like a small production team while functioning on interrupted sleep.
Twin life forces you to level up fast. There is no “I’ll get to that in a minute.” There are two little people who both need you now.
And somehow, you figure it out.
3. Carrying Two Babies at Once
Let’s talk about the mommy muscles.
I truly did not think I would carry both babies as often as I do. But when you have twins who don’t love being left alone, you learn quickly.
If you’re transporting them from the living room to the nursery, guess what? You’re bringing both.
If one sees you pick up the other, it’s over. Equal opportunity holding is required.
So now I scoop one onto each hip like it’s second nature. I’ve built muscles I didn’t know I had. My arms, my shoulders, my core. Double the babies, double the strength.
It’s exhausting. But it’s also kind of empowering.
4. Moving With Strategy
You cannot just “run upstairs real quick” when you have twins.
Every move requires a plan.
Do I bring both?
Do I set one down first?
Will someone protest?
What is the fastest route?
I have developed a mental GPS for navigating my own house while holding tiny humans.
Efficiency matters.
5. Functioning on Fragmented Sleep
This one deserves its own award category.
I can wake up three times in the night and still operate the next day. Is it glamorous? No. But it’s impressive.
There is something powerful about realizing your capacity is bigger than you thought.
6. Growing Without Noticing
The wildest part is that none of this felt dramatic while it was happening.
It just became normal.
And one day you realize you’re stronger. Faster. More patient. More adaptable.
Motherhood did that.
Twin motherhood definitely did that.
I didn’t just grow babies. I grew new skills. New endurance. New confidence.
And yes, significantly stronger arms.
If you’re in the thick of it, just know this: you are developing abilities you never knew you had.
Even if right now it just feels like you’re speed eating pasta while holding two babies and calculating your next move.
That counts.
