The Chaos Behind the Pump
Motherhood really said: let’s make you produce food and grow new teeth for two other humans at the same time.
My milk supply and my patience are both hanging on by a thread.
I’m trying to rebuild my supply with two teething 4-month-olds, and here’s everything I’m doing to try to. I wish I could give you a “yes, this worked” or a “no, it didn’t,” but right now I’m desperate and trying everything all at once.

Everything I’m Trying (aka My Milk Supply Experiment)
Beer
They say it helps with milk supply… or maybe I just needed the excuse. Either way, cheers.
Oatmeal Cream Pies
Pretty sure these count as medicine now.
Root Beer Only Diet
They say dark soda can help, but I don’t drink Coke or Pepsi. So here I am, loyal to root beer and hoping for the best.
Oats in Everything
Overnight oats, oatmeal cookies, oat milk lattes. If it has oats, I’m eating it.
Power Pumping
Basically, you pump in intervals. 20 minutes on, 10 off, 10 on, 10 off, 10 on. To mimic cluster feeding and trick your body into thinking the babies are going through a growth spurt. It’s time-consuming, but it can really jump-start your supply.
Middle-of-the-Night Pumping
I used to sleep through this. Not anymore. It’s me, my pump, and my late-night thoughts at 3 a.m.
Lactation Cookies & Legendary Milk Supplements
The kitchen looks like a science lab, but if it boosts supply, I’m in.

What I’ve Learned So Far
Some days my supply bounces up. Some days it tanks again. It’s unpredictable and frustrating but I’m trying to remember that progress isn’t always a straight line.
Stress and lack of sleep definitely don’t help, but how are you supposed to relax when both babies are teething and your pump sounds like it’s mocking you?
Even my husband has told me, “Don’t stress.”
(Don’t worry he’s still alive.)
Sometimes it’s not just about milk, it’s about feeling like you’re doing your best, even when your body’s exhausted and you’re not sure if it’s enough.

⸻
Advice I’ve Been Told (and My Thoughts On It)
“Drink Body Armor.” → Did that. Still thirsty.
“Pump every two hours.” → Do you mean including night hours? Because… no.
“Don’t stress.” → Sure, let me just not stress while feeding two teething babies.
Everyone means well, but the truth is: every mom, every baby, and every body is different. What works for one might not for another.

If You’re in This Stage Too
If you’re also in the thick of it, trying every snack, supplement, and trick in the book to rebuild your milk supply, you’re not alone.
We’ll figure this out one pump session (and one oatmeal cream pie) at a time.
If you’ve found something that actually helped you, drop it in the comments.
