All three of our cats are peas in a pod. We had them all before having the babies, and honestly, I was curious to see how they’d react when we brought the twins home from the hospital.
Our oldest cat, my “first born,” was not thrilled at first. He hissed at them and kept his distance, clearly confused by all the new sounds and smells. Meanwhile, the two younger cats were so curious and sweet. They would come up to me when I was holding the babies, rub against my legs, and even try to give the twins little head kisses.
It took a few months, but our oldest cat has finally come around. I think he’s realized the babies are here to stay. These days, he’s back to seeking attention from me and my husband, curling up near us like old times. I keep joking that once the twins start dropping snacks from their high chairs, he’ll be their biggest fan.
The younger two cats still don’t quite understand why the babies aren’t petting them yet. They’ll lay close by, waiting patiently, as if one day the twins will just reach out and start scratching behind their ears. It’s the sweetest little waiting game.
Cats and babies can be a controversial topic. Some people worry that cats carry germs or think it’s unsafe to have them around infants. But as long as you know your pets well and take the right precautions, cats and babies can absolutely coexist safely.
I also hope that having the babies around our cats from such a young age will help reduce allergies. Studies suggest that early exposure to pets can help build tolerance, and since both my husband and I are technically allergic, I’m crossing my fingers that’s true.
One precaution I stay on top of is fur cleanup. I want to make sure the floors stay clean for when the babies start crawling. My Roborock Q8 Max vacuum and mop duo has been such a game changer for that. It gives everything a soft, wet-dust clean that keeps cat hair under control without me constantly sweeping. It’s the perfect helper for pet owners who don’t have time to deep clean every day. This vacuum has truly made daily cleaning so much easier.
Having cats and babies under one roof has been surprisingly peaceful. It’s taught me that love can expand in the most unexpected ways, even between tiny humans and curious little cats.
