Cosleeping is one of those topics people love to debate, but in our home it has been the most natural and peaceful choice. Both of my babies cosleep and they have always slept beautifully this way. We follow safe cosleeping guidelines and it works for us. It keeps them close, calm, and deeply comforted. And honestly, it keeps me calm too.
But like everything in motherhood, even the things that work come with quirks. One of my twins sleeps like he has one eye open at all times. If I leave the bed during naps, he will wake up immediately or within a few minutes. His brother sleeps soundly but still depends on my presence in his own little way. So during nap time I stay right where they need me. I stay in the bed.
Most days I wait about forty five minutes before trying to slip out. Once I know they have gotten a solid stretch of sleep, I feel better about getting up to do things around the house. Almost every time, one or both of them wakes up shortly after I leave. But something has changed recently. Instead of panicking or crying the second their eyes open, they pause. They look around. And it seems like they are starting to understand that when they wake, I will be right there as soon as I can. Watching them slowly build that trust has been such a sweet part of this season.
This season is temporary. One day they will nap alone and I know I will miss these quiet hours of being their safe place. For now, staying close during naps means I can soothe them quickly if someone stirs or help them reset if a nap ends too early. I do everything I can to make sure their naps are as restful as possible.
Because I am in bed for long stretches, I have learned to use this time in ways that fill me up. These quiet nap hours have become a space where I build the things I love. I started working on my Etsy business right here in bed. Designing products, planning new ideas, and figuring out how to run a shop all happened with a sleepy baby tucked beside me.
I also began growing my presence on TikTok. What started as a simple creative outlet slowly turned into becoming a micro influencer. I share motherhood moments, answer questions, and connect with other moms from this same cozy spot.
This blog was born during these nap times too. I write on my phone while they sleep, letting my thoughts settle into stories I might not have found time for otherwise.
Sometimes I also help my husband with his mobile mechanic business. I plan ideas, organize notes, and brainstorm ways to grow the business, all without leaving the bed.
These nap times used to feel like being stuck. Now they feel like a gentle kind of productivity. A softer way of moving forward while giving my babies exactly what they need. It is not loud or glamorous, but it fits this season of motherhood perfectly.
Some of my best ideas have come to me while lying next to sleeping babies. Some of my dreams have taken shape in the quiet moments of the afternoon. And if this is what this season looks like, I am grateful for it.
